Switch from Free to cloud or from the cloud to your own relay
There is no dedicated end-to-end process for either switch yet. This page says what works today, what you do by hand — and what does not come along.
Preview this guide has not yet been clicked through on a real device. Button names and steps come from the program but may differ in details.
- For
- Private helper · Account administrator · Own-relay operator
- Applies to
- Free · Cloud · Own relay
What it is for
You started with Free and now need more — or you use the cloud and want to move to your own relay. For neither switch is there a dedicated process yet that does everything at once. This page says honestly what works today.
Which variant suits you: A1.
What you need
- The name of your access (for example
fuchs-48213). - For the move to your own relay: a relay licence (A5) and a server (B2).
How to do it
From Free to cloud
- Open /en/preise/ and click Choose cloud.
- Under For which access? choose Existing access and enter Your access — the name of your Free access.
- Enter devices or technicians and order (A3).
- After payment we check by hand that the access belongs to you and assign the cloud licence to it. Then you get an e-mail.
From the cloud (or Free) to your own relay
A move "at the push of a button" is missing. You set up your own relay from scratch and bring the devices over one by one:
- Buy a relay licence (A5) and install the relay (B2).
- Create an access on your own relay. In the console the access is called tenant.
- On every device change the relay address to your own relay (C6, guide /kb/relay-adresse-aendern/). If BrowserDesk runs as a service, the service follows.
- Add every device to the new access (C2). For many devices: C3.
- Set up settings, users, scripts, start buttons and workflows again on your own relay.
How you know it worked
- Free to cloud: the e-mail that your cloud licence for the access is active. The devices then no longer have to have sessions confirmed at the device (depending on the access's settings).
- Move: the devices are listed in your own relay's console under Devices.
Good to know
- What does not come along when moving: there is no export of a whole access. Settings, scripts, tickets, start buttons, users and history stay in the old access. For your records the console has CSV exports, for example for devices, sessions, audit log and tickets (G17).
- The old access remains until it expires or is deleted. When the cloud licence ends, Free applies there (A9). To have it deleted completely: A11.
- Bought seats of add-on modules belong to the cloud or to the relay licence. They do not move along automatically. Ask by e-mail beforehand.
- Moving devices without touching the device is not possible: every device needs the new relay address (C6).
If it does not work
| You see | Meaning and remedy |
|---|---|
| The order for the existing access is refused | Check the name. If it stays, write to info@browserdesk.de. |
| On the device after the change: "Unbekannter Zugang — bitte den Namen prüfen." (Unknown access — please check the name.) | The access does not exist on the new relay yet, or the name is mistyped (C2). |
| A device does not show up in the new relay | Check the relay address on the device (C6). Then H7. |
| You need data from the old access | Write to info@browserdesk.de saying which data you need. |
