"The drive does not appear"

You share a folder or USB stick as a drive, but nothing shows up at the other end — or Windows reports error 67. Here are the reasons in order, from the licence to gvfs on Linux.

What it is for

In the session you chose DateienLaufwerk freigeben … (Files > share drive — your folder on the device, E22) or DateienLaufwerk des Geräts einbinden … (Files > mount the device's drive — at your side, E23). But the drive does not show up, the menu item is greyed out, or Windows reports "error 67".

What you need

The licence feature for USB redirection (paid cloud or own relay with this licence; never Free).
BrowserDesk on the computer (Windows, Linux or macOS) — not on a phone and not in the browser.
A signed-in user session on the device.

How to do it

Is the menu item greyed out? Hover over it — the hint names the reason: - "Die USB-Umleitung ist in der Lizenz dieses Zugangs nicht enthalten." (USB redirection is not included in this access's licence) → the feature is missing (H22, G4). - "Ob die USB-Umleitung lizenziert ist, ließ sich beim Relay nicht ermitteln." (could not be determined at the relay) → the device cannot reach the relay right now. Wait briefly, reconnect. - "Nur in einer angemeldeten Benutzersitzung (nicht am Sperr- oder Anmeldebildschirm)." (only in a signed-in user session) → sign in or unlock on the device first. - "Das Gerät kennt diese Funktion noch nicht (BrowserDesk am Gerät aktualisieren)." (the device does not know this function yet — update it) → update the device. - "Laufwerk freigeben darf nur, wer das Gerät steuert." (only whoever controls the device may share a drive) → take over control.

Windows reports "Windows hat das Laufwerk abgelehnt (Netzwerkname nicht gefunden, Fehler 67)." (Windows refused the drive — network name not found, error 67) — usually after waiting about a minute. That was a bug in the first version (20261011.12), fixed since version 20261011.15. Update both sides — the device and your own program — then share again.

Is the "WebClient" service missing on the Windows device? Windows mounts the drive through this service. - "Der Windows-Dienst „WebClient“ fehlt auf diesem Gerät (Windows Server: Funktion „WebDAV-Redirector“ installieren)." (the WebClient service is missing) → on Windows Server install the feature "WebDAV Redirector". - "Der Windows-Dienst „WebClient“ ist deaktiviert (Fehler 1058)." (the WebClient service is disabled) → an administrator of the device must allow the service again. - "Kein Laufwerksbuchstabe mehr frei." (no drive letter left) → disconnect a network drive on the device, then share again.

Linux: is gvfs missing? Linux mounts the drive without administrator rights through gvfs ("gio"). - "Auf diesem Linux fehlt gvfs („gio“, Paket gvfs bzw. gvfs-backends) — …" (gvfs is missing on this Linux) → install gvfs on the Linux device. - "Kein Desktop-Sitzungsbus (gvfs braucht eine angemeldete Desktop-Sitzung)." (no desktop session bus) → someone must be signed in to a graphical desktop on the device. - "gvfs konnte den Ordner nicht einbinden (…)" (gvfs could not mount the folder) → note the text in brackets and send it with the logs (step 7). - On Linux the drive is listed in the file manager under "Other Locations", not as a drive letter.

On your side (Linux) an address appears instead of a drive? Your computer has no gvfs. The message names the way: "Im Dateimanager „Mit Server verbinden“ bzw. in die Adresszeile: dav://… (GNOME/Nautilus) oder webdav://… (KDE/Dolphin). Die Adresse gilt nur, solange die Sitzung läuft." (in the file manager "Connect to server" or in the address bar … — the address is valid only while the session runs).

The drive is there, but a large file cannot be opened? Out of the box Windows does not open files over 50 MB this way. With the service installed on the device, BrowserDesk raises the limit for the session; without the service the notice "Dateien über 50 MB lassen sich hier nicht öffnen …" (files over 50 MB cannot be opened here) appears. Send large files via file transfer (E8).

None of this? Collect the logs — on the device and on your side — and send them with the time to info@browserdesk.de.

How you know it worked

Windows: Explorer shows a drive "BrowserDesk – <name>" with the contents of the folder.
Linux: in the file manager under "Other Locations".
On the device a small window or the footer shows: "Laufwerk des Technikers eingebunden (X:)." (technician's drive mounted) with Beenden (stop).

What the other side sees

The person at the device sees the notice with Beenden. If they share a drive themselves (E23), BrowserDesk asks them first.

Good to know

Only while the session runs. When the session ends, the drive disappears.
"Dateien" off = drive gone. If the person at the device switches off "Dateien" (files), every drive share ends at once.
Raising the 50 MB limit restarts the "WebClient" service on the Windows device. Windows then disconnects all WebDAV drives of the device, including others (for example SharePoint).
Read only: without Schreiben erlauben (allow writing) Explorer reports "Access denied" when saving. On Linux the error is misleadingly called "No such file or directory".
macOS mounts the drive like "Connect to Server" in the Finder; this has not been checked on a device yet.

If it does not work

You see	Meaning and fix
"Windows hat das Laufwerk abgelehnt (Netzwerkname nicht gefunden, Fehler 67)."	Bring both sides to 20261011.15 or newer (step 2).
"Am Gerät kann niemand zustimmen — ein Laufwerk des Geräts gibt es nur mit Zustimmung am Gerät." (nobody can consent at the device)	For DateienLaufwerk des Geräts einbinden … someone must be signed in at the device and agree (E23).
"Es ist schon ein Laufwerk des Geräts freigegeben." or "Am Gerät ist schon ein Laufwerk eines Technikers eingebunden." (a drive is already shared)	Stop the running share first.
"Dafür fehlt die Freigabe „Dateien übertragen“." (the permission "transfer files" is missing)	"Dateien" is off on the device or in the console.
