"The print does not arrive" or "only the second job arrived"

What it is for

In the session you set up the printer "BrowserDesk Drucker" on the device (E21). Someone printed to it on the device — but no Druckauftrag vom Gerät (print job from the device) appears on your side, or only one of two jobs arrived.

What you need

• A running session to the device while printing.
• On the device Windows or Linux with the BrowserDesk service installed.

How to do it

1. Were you connected when it was printed? Without a session the device keeps nothing: a job printed while nobody is connected is discarded. Likewise the device deletes jobs not yet collected as soon as the last technician leaves the session. Connect and have it printed again during the session.

1. Was the right printer used? On the device "BrowserDesk Drucker" must be chosen (on Linux the queue "BrowserDesk"), not the default printer. If your menu shows Drucker am Gerät entfernen (remove printer on the device), the printer is set up; if it shows Drucker am Gerät einrichten (set up printer on the device), it is still missing.

1. Did you already click the job away? In the program a cancelled print stays under "Bereitgestellte Dateien" (provided files): "Drucken abgebrochen — der Auftrag bleibt unter „Bereitgestellte Dateien“." (printing cancelled — the job stays under provided files). In the browser, Drucken … (print) opens a new tab with the PDF. If the browser blocks the tab, the PDF is saved instead, like a download.

1. Did a message appear? The sentences are in the table below. Most common: the job hung in the device's print system ("… nicht fertig (90 s) …") or was not a PDF (Linux without cups-filters).

1. Only the second of two jobs arrived? On Windows the driver writes every job into the same file. So that two jobs do not overwrite each other, BrowserDesk keeps the printer paused and collects the jobs one by one. If still only one arrives: have one job after the other printed — the next only when the previous one has appeared on your side as Druckauftrag vom Gerät. On Linux each job arrives as its own file; this overwriting does not happen there.

1. Set the printer up again. Dateien › Drucker am Gerät entfernen (Files > remove printer on the device), then Dateien › Drucker am Gerät einrichten.

1. Still nothing? Collect the logs on the device (the service log) and send them with the time of printing to info@browserdesk.de.

How you know it worked

Druckauftrag vom Gerät appears on your side with name and size: "„…“ (…) wurde am Gerät auf „BrowserDesk Drucker“ gedruckt. …" (… was printed on the device to "BrowserDesk Drucker") — with Drucken …, Speichern (save) and Verwerfen (discard).

What the other side sees

The person at the device prints as usual. No paper comes out there.

Good to know

• At most 100 MB per job.
• Several technicians in one session are all offered the job.
• macOS as the device cannot print this way yet.
• Removing does not work at once? Windows sometimes releases the printer port only after a few seconds. A port left behind does no harm; it is reused the next time you set up the printer.
