Print at the device and get the paper at the technician's side

What it is for

There is an invoice or a form at the device, and the paper should come out of your printer. In the session you create the printer "BrowserDesk Drucker" at the device. Whoever prints on it there — you in the session or the person at the device — sends the job to you as a PDF. You print it on your own printer, save it or discard it.

What you need

• At the device: Windows or Linux with the BrowserDesk service installed — setting up needs administrator or root rights (C4). - Windows: the driver "Microsoft Print To PDF" (Windows feature "Microsoft Print to PDF"). - Linux: the CUPS printing system. With the package cups-filters every job arrives as a PDF.
• On your side: BrowserDesk on your computer or web access (D4).
• Rights: you must be allowed to control and to transfer files.
• In all models, including Free.

How to do it

1. In the session choose Dateien › Drucker am Gerät einrichten (Files > Set up printer at the device). In the browser the item is in the menu Dateien (Files) as well.
2. The message reads "Drucker „BrowserDesk Drucker“ am Gerät eingerichtet — dort drucken, das PDF kommt hierher." (printer set up at the device — print there, the PDF comes here).
3. At the device, print from any program and choose "BrowserDesk Drucker" as the printer (on Linux the queue is called "BrowserDesk").
4. On your side Druckauftrag vom Gerät (print job from the device) appears with the job's name and size: - Drucken … (Print …) opens your own system's print dialog. In the browser a new tab opens with the PDF; the browser's PDF viewer prints it. - Speichern (Save) stores the PDF on your side. - Verwerfen (Discard) deletes the job at the device at once.
5. At the end, Dateien › Drucker am Gerät entfernen (Files > Remove printer at the device) — the printer disappears from the device again.

How you know it worked

• After setting up, the menu item reads Drucker am Gerät entfernen (Remove printer at the device).
• After printing at the device, Druckauftrag vom Gerät appears on your side.

What the other side sees

A new printer "BrowserDesk Drucker" appears in the device's printer list. It prints nothing on paper — everything goes to you.

Good to know

• Only on request: BrowserDesk never creates the printer by itself.
• Nothing is kept without a session. If someone prints on "BrowserDesk Drucker" while nobody is connected, the job is discarded. When the last viewer leaves, the device deletes jobs that were not collected.
• One after the other: on Windows, BrowserDesk keeps the printer paused and collects the jobs one by one. If only one of several jobs arrives anyway: H20.
• Size: at most 100 MB per job.
• Several technicians in a session are all offered the job.
• A Mac as the device cannot print this way yet.
