Set up BrowserDesk Free — your free access

What it is for

You want to use BrowserDesk privately — for the family's computers, say. With Free you get your own access at browserdesk.de at no cost. You register your devices in it, and only devices from your access can control them. It takes a few minutes: form, e-mail, choose your sign-in.

What you need

• An e-mail address you can read. There is one Free access per address.
• Private use or testing. Businesses, public authorities and associations use the cloud (A1).
• Later, the BrowserDesk program on each device (C1).

How to do it

1. Open browserdesk.de/en/preise/?modell=free — or click Start for free on the website, or Choose Free on the Free card.
2. In the step Your Free access enter your name and e-mail address.
3. Set both ticks: I use BrowserDesk Free privately or for testing. and the acceptance of the licence agreement and terms of use.
4. Click Request link. The page shows "Link sent" and the next steps.
5. Open the e-mail "BrowserDesk Free — please set up your access" and click Set up access →. The link is valid for 48 hours.
6. The page Set up your Free access opens. We assign the name of the access at random — you do not choose it. Enter: - Username - Password and Repeat password — the minimum length is shown below the fields. The password is never sent by e-mail; keep it safe.
7. Click Create access.
8. The page shows Done with the address, the username and the ID for your devices. Copy copies address and ID; Sign in opens the management console of your access.
9. Add devices: install BrowserDesk on the device, then in the program under Einstellungen (Settings) → Fernzugriff (Remote access) enter the ID, your username and your password, click Beitreten (Join) and choose Dieses Gerät hinzufügen (Add this device) in the window that follows. How you know it worked

• The page shows Done, and you receive the e-mail "BrowserDesk — your access … is ready" with address, ID, sign-in address and username.
• At the sign-in address (https://<ID>.browserdesk.de/admin) you sign in with username and password.
• Added devices appear there in the device list.

Good to know

• 3 seats: every added device takes a seat until you release it in the management console — at most three releases in 30 days. Your own computer that you only control from needs no seat: after Beitreten choose Nur von hier aus steuern (Only control from here).
• One session at a time, and the person at the device confirms each one.
• No access password: unlike the cloud, Free has no shared password for the devices. Devices get in with your username and password or with a one-time code.
• Your devices can only be controlled from devices signed in to your access — a device's ID and password alone are not enough. That protects against callers who "just need the number".
• The access only comes into being with Create access. Until then you can open the link several times.
• Requesting a new link for the same address makes the old one invalid.
• We store your name, e-mail address and the IP address of the request — for your access and against abuse.
• More devices or sessions: Move from Free to cloud.
