Help someone right away who has nothing installed

The person downloads Quick Support, reads six digits to you and agrees — you see and control their screen without a password. Works for any computer — with Free, Cloud and your own relay.

What it is for

Someone calls: "Something isn't working." Their computer has no BrowserDesk yet. With Quick Support („Schnellhilfe“) they download a single file, start it and read you a quick code of six digits. You type the digits, they click „Erlauben“ (Allow) — and you see their screen. Nothing is installed and nobody has to share a password.

What you need

  • You (helper): BrowserDesk on your computer, phone or tablet — or simply a browser with browserdesk.de/app. No account needed.
  • The person at the device: a Windows PC with internet. On macOS and Linux there is no separate Quick Support file yet — the person installs BrowserDesk and creates the code in the program (see below).
  • Model: any — Free, Cloud or your own relay. On browserdesk.de it also works for a stranger's computer that starts Quick Support for the first time and belongs to no account.

How to do it

You (helper)

  1. Open browserdesk.de/app or your BrowserDesk program.
  2. In the card Verbinden (Connect) choose the tab Schnellcode (Quick code).
  3. Below the field there is a link to Quick Support. Send it to the person — by mail, messenger or read it out: browserdesk.de/dl/schnellhilfe.
  4. Have the six digits read to you and type them. Spaces and dashes do not matter.
  5. Click Verbinden (Connect) and wait until the person agrees.

The person at the device

  1. Open the link. The file BrowserDesk-Schnellhilfe.exe is downloaded.
  2. Start the file. A small window BrowserDesk Schnellhilfe opens with Ihr Code für den Helfer (your code for the helper) and six digits.
  3. Read the digits to the helper.
  4. When the window Zugriff erlauben? (Allow access?) appears: click Erlauben (Allow).
  5. When the help is done: click Trennen und beenden (Disconnect and quit).

macOS or Linux at the device: install BrowserDesk (C1). Then on the start page, in the card Entfernten Desktop steuern (Control a remote desktop), choose the tab Schnellcode; below it, under Für dieses Gerät als Ziel (for this device as target), click Schnellcode erzeugen (Create quick code). The same exists in the sidebar under Fernzugriff (Remote access) in the card Erreichbarkeit (Reachability). If it asks to switch on „Eingehende Verbindungen zulassen“ (allow incoming connections), do that first. The rest is the same.

How you know it worked

The session window opens on your side showing the person's screen. From now on you also know the device's ID — it is listed under „Zuletzt verwendet“ (Recently used), and next time you can connect with it (D2) if the person allows it.

What the other side sees

  • Before the connection, the dialog Zugriff erlauben? with your name and the addition "per Schnellcode". Ablehnen (Deny) is preselected: an accidental Enter lets nobody in. Without an answer the request is denied when the countdown runs out.
  • During the session the Quick Support window stays open; its button then reads Trennen und beenden.

Good to know

  • The code is valid for 5 minutes and only once. When it expires, Quick Support shows a new one by itself (Neuer Code (New code) gets one immediately).
  • The code only replaces the password, never the consent. Without „Erlauben“ at the device nobody gets in.
  • Nothing is installed: no service, no autostart, no tray icon. After quitting, the computer can no longer be reached through Quick Support. Windows keeps the device identity so the computer gets the same ID next time.
  • Do not rename the file: if its name no longer contains "Schnellhilfe", the full program starts and installs itself.
  • Quick Support allows screen, control, clipboard and files — no command line.

If it does not work

You seeMeaning and fix
Quick Support shows "Schnellcode ist in BrowserDesk Free nicht enthalten, mit einer Cloud-Lizenz schon." (quick code not included in Free)Only appears if an operator has switched off the quick code in the Free plan. Use ID and password (D2) — or add the device to an account with a Cloud licence (C2).
"Schnellcode unbekannt oder abgelaufen …" (quick code unknown or expired)The code was older than 5 minutes, already used or mistyped. Ask for a new code. A dropped session also needs a new code.
"Zu viele falsche Schnellcodes …" (too many wrong quick codes)Five wrong attempts within 5 minutes. Wait a few minutes.
The request was deniedThe person clicked „Ablehnen“ or did not answer in time. Connect again — with a new code.
No Quick Support link in the tab SchnellcodeYour relay does not offer Quick Support yet (own relay on an older version). The person installs BrowserDesk (C1).
The person sees "Der BrowserDesk-Dienst auf diesem Rechner hat keinen Code geliefert."An installed BrowserDesk is already running on that computer and has no connection to the relay right now. Check the internet, try again later.
