What it is for

Your connection data should not leave your premises, or your network has no internet at all. Then you run the relay yourself: it brokers the connections, provides the console and browser access and runs on your server. The programs on the devices are the same as in the cloud — they just point to your relay.

What you need

  • A server: Docker (Linux, amd64 or arm64), Linux without Docker (Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, Debian 12) or Windows Server 2019 or later (MSI).
  • A name in DNS and a certificate if devices are to connect from outside.
  • Open ports as listed in the installation guide.
  • Someone to look after the server: updates and backups are your job.

How to do it

  1. Check the option — is your own relay really right? A1.
  2. Install the relay — depending on the server: Docker, Linux or Windows MSI. Afterwards your relay's console is up.
  3. Try it without a licence — without a licence the relay runs for 30 days with up to 5 devices, after that permanently with 2.
  4. Buy and install the licence — with or without internet at the relay (A5).
  5. Install BrowserDesk on the devices (C1) and point them to your relay: either via your relay's download or by changing the relay address in the program (guide).
  6. Bring the devices into your access (C2) — for many devices with a distribution key at installation.
  7. Connect — with ID and password (D2), in the browser via your relay's address (D4) or spontaneously with a quick code (D1), which works for any computer with your own relay.

How you know it worked

Your relay's console shows the active licence under Licenses, and your devices are in the device list.

Good to know

  • Only browserdesk.de issues licences. With internet the licence confirms itself every 30 days; without internet once a year via a request and activation code (A5).
  • Extended inventory is only available with your own relay.
  • You keep several customers on one relay apart with separate accesses.
