What it is for

You want to reach your parents' computer or your own second computer remotely — without paying anything. With BrowserDesk Free you get your own access for three devices and one session at a time. This quick start takes you through it in four steps; each step points to the detailed guide.

What you need

  • An e-mail address.
  • The devices you want to reach: Windows, macOS or Linux.
  • To control them: BrowserDesk on your computer, phone or tablet — or a browser.
  • Important: Free is only for private use and for testing.

How to do it

  1. Create an access — on browserdesk.de/en/preise/?modell=free enter your name and e-mail, open the link from the e-mail, set a username and password. At the end you see the ID for your devices. In detail: A2.
  2. Install BrowserDesk on the devices you want to reach — and on your own. In detail: C1.
  3. Add the devices to your access — in the program under EinstellungenFernzugriff (Settings > Remote access) sign in in the card Zugang (Access) and choose Dieses Gerät hinzufügen (Add this device), or more conveniently with a one-time code from a device that is already signed in. Every added device takes one of the three seats. In detail: C2.
  4. Connect — and do so from within your access: your own BrowserDesk is signed in to your access (as a device or with Nur von hier aus steuern (Only control from here), see C2), or you sign in in the browser in the card "My devices" (D4). Then connect with the device's ID and its password (D2). Someone at the device must click Erlauben (Allow) (F1).

How you know it worked

You see the other device's screen in a window of its own and can use mouse and keyboard.

Good to know

  • In Free the person at the device confirms every session. Unattended access (nobody sitting in front of it) is not part of Free — for that you need the cloud (Q2).
  • Quick code in Free too: with Quick Support without installation (D1) you can also help a computer that is not in your access. Here too the person at the device confirms the session.
  • The devices of your Free access can only be controlled from your access — anyone who merely learns ID and password does not get in.
  • Swapping seats: if you take a device out of the access, its seat becomes free — at most three releases in 30 days.
  • If you need more: A1 compares Free, cloud and own relay.
