Picture stutters or is blurry — set the quality and read the analysis overlay

What it is for

On a weak connection the picture stutters or reacts late; on a good one it should be sharp. In the session you choose between three levels, switch off the wallpaper and animations on the device, and show a measurement panel that tells you what is being transmitted.

What you need

• A running session. The quality applies to all controlled systems (Windows, Mac, Linux).
• Background and animations off only works on Windows devices.
• Viewer: program, browser and the phone/tablet app have the quality levels. The analysis overlay exists in the program and in the browser.

How to do it

Quality in the running session (program):

1. Open Ansicht (View) in the bar.
2. Under QUALITÄT (quality) choose a level: - Bildqualität (picture quality) — sharp, needs the most data. - Ausgewogen (balanced) — the middle way. - Reaktion (20 fps, ½ Auflösung) (responsiveness — 20 fps, half resolution) — for weak connections: less data, 20 frames per second, half resolution from 1280 pixels width. The picture is deliberately less sharp then.
3. On a weak connection also click Hintergrund und Animationen aus (background and animations off). For the session the device shows no wallpaper and no window animations — fewer picture changes, less data.

Measurement panel: Ansicht → Analyse-Overlay (analysis overlay). A box with figures appears at the top right of the picture. Click again to hide it.

In the browser: the same under Ansicht: choose Qualität: Bildqualität, Qualität: Ausgewogen or Qualität: Reaktion (20 fps, ½ Auflösung), plus Hintergrund und Animationen aus and Analyse-Overlay.

Default for new sessions:

• Program: Einstellungen › Allgemein (Settings > General) → card Video & Verbindung (video & connection) → STANDARD-QUALITÄT (default quality). In the card Allgemein, Analyse-Overlay standardmäßig anzeigen (show analysis overlay by default) switches the panel on for every session.
• Browser: gear icon in the bar → Vorgaben für neue Sitzungen (defaults for new sessions) → choice "Qualität: …".
• Phone/tablet: tab Einstellungen (Settings) → Standard-Qualität (default quality).

How you know it worked

• The program briefly reports "Qualität: …" with the chosen level; the menu shows the tick.
• After Hintergrund und Animationen aus it reports "Hintergrund und Animationen am Host aus" (background and animations off on the host). The tick shows what the device actually applied.

Reading the analysis overlay

A line is missing when the device does not report the value — it never shows an invented zero.

Good to know

• The device adjusts by itself. If data backs up, it lowers the data rate and raises it again once the connection is free. The level sets the upper limit.
• Background and animations come back on the device when you switch the item off again. On Mac and Linux the item is greyed out and states the reason.
• Different names on the phone: in the app the default levels are called "Beste Qualität" (best quality), "Ausgewogen" (balanced) and "Geringe Bandbreite" (low bandwidth).
• The measurement panel blocks nothing: clicks on it go to the device.
• In full screen and on a phone the bar floats above the picture. If it covers something, move it by its handle; a double click on the handle puts it back at the top centre.
