What it is for

Normally the helper sees your screen. Sometimes, though, he wants to show you something on his screen — for example: "This is how it looks on my side." Then a window with his picture opens on your computer. You are asked first.

What you need

  • A Windows, Mac or Linux computer with BrowserDesk and a running session.
  • Nothing else. You do not have to set anything up.

How to do it

  1. The helper wants to show you his screen. A window Bildschirm des Technikers anzeigen? (Show the technician's screen?) appears. It says: "… möchte Ihnen seinen eigenen Bildschirm zeigen." (… would like to show you his own screen.)
  2. You want to see it? Click Anzeigen (Show).
  3. You do not want to? Click Ablehnen (Deny) — or do nothing. After a short time the question closes and nothing opens.
  4. After Anzeigen a window opens. At the top it says "Techniker zeigt seinen Bildschirm" (technician is showing his screen). Below it you see the helper's screen. Until the picture arrives, it says "Warte auf das Bild des Technikers …" (waiting for the technician's picture).
  5. Done? Click Schließen (Close) at the top right. The cross on the window or Alt+F4 work as well.

While the question is open, the helper cannot click anything. So he cannot press Anzeigen himself.

How you know it worked

  • The window with the strip "Techniker zeigt seinen Bildschirm" is open.
  • The helper's screen moves inside it.

What the other side sees

  • The helper learns whether you clicked Anzeigen or Ablehnen.
  • He still sees your screen. He does not see the window with his picture — he sees what lies behind it.
  • If you close the window, the showing ends at his end too.

Good to know

  • Your screen stays as it is. Showing does not change what the helper sees or may do on your computer.
  • You decide: without Anzeigen nothing opens. With Schließen it is over at any time.
  • After a no, the helper can only ask again after 30 seconds.
  • At the end of the session the window closes by itself.
  • Mac and Linux: there the small session window becomes the large window with the helper's picture. After Schließen it is small again.
  • Older Windows versions and Linux with Wayland: there the helper sees the window with his own picture.
