Record the session — into the console or onto your own computer

What it is for

For evidence, training or a later question you record the session. There are two ways: in the console — the device records and uploads the recording after the session — or locally as a video file on your computer.

What you need

• The BrowserDesk program on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. The browser offers no recording.
• Record in the console: - Cloud or an own relay; the plan must include session recording (never Free). - A Windows device from version 20261006.8 that is currently signed in to the relay. - The control right in the session.
• Record locally: works with every model, as long as the session receives the picture on the direct picture path.

How to do it

1. Click the button with the dot Aufzeichnung (Recording) in the session bar.
2. Under "IN DER KONSOLE (AM GERÄT)" (in the console — on the device): In der Konsole aufzeichnen (Record in the console). Or under "LOKAL (AUF DIESEM RECHNER)" (locally — on this computer): Lokal aufzeichnen (Record locally).
3. While recording, the button is red and reads Aufzeichnung läuft (Recording running).
4. To stop: Aufzeichnung in der Konsole beenden (Stop recording in the console) or Lokale Aufzeichnung beenden (Stop local recording). Otherwise the recording ends with the session.
5. To find local files: Ordner der lokalen Aufzeichnungen öffnen (Open the folder of local recordings).

Where recordings end up:

• In the console: Devices → open the device → Session recordings — after the session has ended.
• Locally: as a WebM file, on Windows in Videos\BrowserDesk, on macOS in ~/Movies/BrowserDesk, on Linux in ~/Videos/BrowserDesk.

Record every session automatically (administrator): in the console for the device or the access under Settings → Session and picture → Record sessions (WebM). To require it for all devices: under rules, Enforce session recording. Then the recording cannot be stopped in the session.

How you know it worked

• The button is red: Aufzeichnung läuft.
• Locally: after stopping, a notice names the saved file.
• Console: after the session the recording is listed under the device's Session recordings.

What the other side sees

The small session window at the device shows "REC" — for both ways, including the local recording (F1).

Good to know

• Sound is never recorded, only the picture (E13).
• The file starts with a complete picture. Started in the middle of a session, the beginning may be missing for a moment.
• If the relay was unreachable during the recording, the device uploads it later once it is signed in again — for up to 14 days.
• In the control room the local recording ends with the session window (Zurück zum Leitstand — back to the control room); the one on the device continues.

If it does not work
