Choose the right user session on a terminal server
If a Windows computer has several signed-in sessions, you choose which one you see and control.

What it is for
On a terminal server, or a computer with an additional Remote Desktop session, several users are signed in at the same time. BrowserDesk first shows the session on the computer's own screen. You can choose a different one.
What you need
- A Windows device with the BrowserDesk service set up (C4). Without the service there is no choice; the same on macOS and Linux.
- At least two sessions on the device — only then does the choice appear.
- Technician: BrowserDesk on a computer or web access.
How to do it
- Program: open the menu Ansicht (View) in the session bar. Under "SITZUNG" (session) all sessions are listed, for example "Sitzung 2: mueller (getrennt)" — with user name and additions such as "Konsole" (console), "gesperrt" (locked) or "getrennt" (disconnected). Browser: menu Ansicht → a selection field with the same entries.
- Choose a session. "Wechsle zu Sitzung … …" (switching to session …) appears.
- BrowserDesk restarts on the device in the chosen session, and your window reconnects by itself.
How you know it worked
You see the chosen user's desktop; the chosen session is marked in the menu.
Good to know
- The choice outlasts the connection: whoever connects later lands in the last chosen session, as long as it exists.
- It ends when the session disappears or the BrowserDesk service restarts — also when the computer restarts or after an update. BrowserDesk then shows the session on the computer's own screen again.
- The choice may briefly be missing if the service is not answering at that moment. It is back at the next connection.
If it does not work
| You see | Meaning and fix |
|---|---|
| No "SITZUNG" choice | Only one session, no service, not a Windows device — or the service was not running at that moment. Reconnect. |
| "Wechsle zu Sitzung …" but nothing happens | The device runs a version older than 20260930.5. Update the device. |
