Use the Start Center

Your IT has set up buttons for common tasks — for example "reconnect printer". One click is enough, and BrowserDesk shows whether it worked.

What it is for

Some tasks come up again and again: reconnect the printer, show information about the computer, tidy something up. Your IT can set up buttons for these. You find them in the Start Center. You click — BrowserDesk does the rest. You need no admin rights and no technician.

What you need

  • BrowserDesk on your computer (Windows, Mac or Linux). Your computer belongs to an access.
  • Your IT has bought the Start Center for your computer and set up buttons. BrowserDesk Free has no Start Center.

How to do it

  1. Open BrowserDesk. Click Startcenter (Start Center) on the left (below Tickets).
  2. You see the buttons your IT has set up for you. Some are in groups. Move the mouse over a button: a short hint says what it does.
  3. Click the button.
  4. Often BrowserDesk asks once more: "„…“ jetzt ausführen?" (Run "…" now?). Click Ausführen (Run) — or Abbrechen (Cancel), then nothing happens.
  5. The button now says "Läuft …" (Running …). If it takes longer it says "Läuft noch — Sie können weiterarbeiten" (Still running — you can keep working).
  6. Afterwards the button says "Erledigt" (Done), or a sentence from your IT — or "Fehlgeschlagen: …" (Failed: …) with the reason.

How you know it worked

For a few seconds the button says "Erledigt" or a sentence from your IT. After that a small sign on the button shows how it last ended. Move the mouse over it: "Zuletzt: erledigt" (Last time: done).

Good to know

  • You do not enter anything. What a button does is fixed by your IT.
  • One button at a time. While a button is still running, it does not take a second click.
  • A grey button with "Nicht verfügbar" (Not available) does not work on this computer right now. Move the mouse over it, the reason is shown.
  • If someone is helping you remotely and clicks a button, BrowserDesk asks you first. The helper cannot answer this question himself.
  • Each click is recorded with your user name. Your IT can see when which button ran.
  • Reload: Aktualisieren (Refresh) at the top right. Otherwise the page fetches the buttons every minute.
