Exchange text via the clipboard

In the program copied text syncs by itself in both directions; in the browser and on a phone you send and fetch it with a button.

What it is for

You copy some text on your side — a password, a command, an address — and want to paste it on the device, or the other way round. In the BrowserDesk program this works without a click. In the browser and on a phone you send or fetch the text with a menu item.

What you need

  • A running session. The controlled system does not matter (Windows, Mac, Linux).
  • The clipboard must be allowed at the device: EinstellungenSicherheit (Settings > Security) → card Interaktion & Berechtigungen (interaction & permissions) → Zwischenablage synchronisieren (sync clipboard).

How to do it

In the program (Windows, Mac, Linux):

  1. Copy text on your side (Ctrl+C).
  2. Click the target spot in the device's picture and paste (Ctrl+V).

The other way round works the same: what you copy on the device is in your clipboard shortly afterwards. By hand it works via Eingabe (Input) → Zwischenablage senden (send clipboard) or Zwischenablage holen (fetch clipboard).

In the browser: nothing syncs by itself here.

  1. Copy text on your side, then Eingabe → Zwischenablage senden. Then paste on the device with Ctrl+V.
  2. From the device to you: copy on the device, then Eingabe → Zwischenablage holen. The text is now in your clipboard.

On a phone or tablet (app): text you copy on the device arrives by itself. For the other direction, tap Zwischenablage senden in the bar at the bottom.

How you know it worked

  • Program: in the bar next to Trennen (Disconnect) a message with a green dot appears briefly — "Zwischenablage vom Host übernommen" (clipboard taken from the host) or "Zwischenablage an Host gesendet (… Zeichen)" (clipboard sent to the host, … characters).
  • Browser: "Zwischenablage gesendet (… Zeichen)" (clipboard sent) or "Remote-Zwischenablage übernommen (… Zeichen)" (remote clipboard taken).

What the other side sees

Nothing special. The session window on the device has the switch "Ablage" (clipboard). If the person switches it off, no clipboard is exchanged any more (F1).

Good to know

  • iPhone and iPad only read the clipboard at the push of a button. iOS shows a notice on every read; that is why the app does not read by itself.
  • The browser needs your permission and a secure connection (HTTPS) to read or write the clipboard. If it asks, allow it.
  • Copied files and pictures also go through the clipboard in the program: E11.

If it does not work

Program: Ctrl+V on the device pastes the old textWait a moment and paste again; or Eingabe → Zwischenablage senden. If it stays that way: the clipboard is off at the device.
Browser: "Lokale Zwischenablage ist leer" (local clipboard is empty)Nothing is copied as text on your side. Copy text, then send again.
Browser: "Zwischenablage-Zugriff verweigert — braucht HTTPS + Erlaubnis" (access denied — needs HTTPS and permission)The browser denied access. Allow the clipboard in the browser's site settings.
Browser: "Konnte lokale Zwischenablage nicht setzen — Fokus + HTTPS nötig" (could not set local clipboard — focus and HTTPS needed)The browser window was not in front. Click into the window and repeat Zwischenablage holen.
