View, end and start processes and services
See from the console what runs on a device, end a hanging process or restart a service — without a session and without a script.

What it is for
A program hangs, a service needs a restart — you do not need a session for that. In a device's details the tab Processes & services shows live what runs there, with CPU load and memory. From there you end processes and start, stop or restart services.
What you need
- A sign-in to the console with the role technician or higher.
- The device is online and has BrowserDesk from version 20261010.29.
- To end and control the same applies as for scripts (G6): in the Cloud the service "Scripts", in the access the rule Allow running scripts not Off, on the device script execution allowed (Remote command line via viewer (exec)). Viewing works without these three.
How to do it
- Devices → click the device (G1).
- On the left under Remote access → Processes & services. The list loads ("Fetching from the device …") and refreshes every 5 seconds while the tab is open.
- At the top switch between Processes and Services; filter with Search…; sort by clicking a column — for example by CPU.
- End a process: in the row menu ⋮ → End process → confirm the question End process? with End.
- Control a service: tab Services, in the row menu ⋮ → Start, Restart or End → confirm the question.
How you know it worked
- A message confirms it, for example "“…” ended." or "Service “…” restarted."
- At the next refresh the process is gone or the service shows Running in the column State.
- Every change is in the audit log with who, what and result.
What the other side sees
If the device requires a question for scripts (switch Skript-Ausführung bestätigen (confirm script execution) on the device), it also asks before ending or controlling. While this question is open, the device ignores clicks and keys from a controlling technician.
Good to know
- CPU in per cent is calculated by the console from two refreshes; the first refresh shows "…".
- macOS: services can only be viewed; the console then says "Controlling services is not yet possible on this system — view only."
- Very many processes: the device then leaves out the paths ("Many entries — the device left out the paths.") or shortens the list.
- Without the service BrowserDesk on the device may only do what the signed-in user may — ending other users' processes then fails with a message such as "access denied".
- BrowserDesk never ends itself and no system processes with very small numbers.
- Unmeasured on devices: the tab has not been clicked through on a real device via a real relay yet.
If it does not work
| You see | Meaning and remedy |
|---|---|
| "The device is offline." | The device is not connected. |
| "The device is not responding." | No answer within 20 seconds. Try again later; maybe update the device. |
| "You lack the permission for this (technician or higher)." | Your role is read-only. |
| "Scripts are disabled for this tenant — and with them ending and controlling here." | The rule Allow running scripts is Off (G3). |
| „Skripte und Task-Manager sind für dieses Gerät nicht freigegeben (Recht „scriptExec“).“ (scripts and task manager not enabled for this device) | Script execution is not allowed on the device: device setting Remote command line via viewer (exec) to On (G6). |
| „Am Gerät abgelehnt.“ (declined on the device) | The person at the device declined the question. |
| "No data from the device yet." stays | The device has an older BrowserDesk version without the task manager. Update it (G5). |
