Send Ctrl+Alt+Del, use the sign-in and lock screen and UAC prompts
With the BrowserDesk service you also see and use the Windows lock screen and User Account Control; Linux reaches its sign-in screen through a setting of its own.

What it is for
Some things in Windows run on a protected screen: the lock and sign-in screen, the menu after Ctrl+Alt+Del and the User Account Control prompt ("Do you want to allow …"). With the BrowserDesk service on the device you can see and use these screens too. On Linux devices you reach the sign-in screen through a setting of its own.
What you need
- Windows device with the BrowserDesk service (C4). Without the service the protected screen stays hidden from you.
- Cloud or an own relay. Usually nobody sits at the lock or sign-in screen who could give consent; that only works with access without confirmation, so not with Free.
- Linux device: the setting "Zugang vor der Anmeldung" (access before sign-in, see below).
- Mac: there is no Ctrl+Alt+Del. You unlock a locked Mac by typing its password (E5).
- Viewer: program, browser and app have the item in the Eingabe (Input) menu.
How to do it
At the device (set up once)
Windows:
- Open EinstellungenFernzugriff (Settings > Remote access).
- In the card Systemdienst (system service) click Dienst installieren (install service). Windows asks for administrator rights.
Linux:
- Open EinstellungenFernzugriff.
- In the card Zugang vor der Anmeldung (access before sign-in) switch on Anmeldebildschirm fernsteuern (control the sign-in screen remotely). The administrator password is asked for once.
On your side (in the session)
Send Ctrl+Alt+Del:
- Open Eingabe in the bar.
- Click Strg+Alt+Entf (Ctrl+Alt+Del).
Lock screen: when the device is locked, the session briefly rebuilds itself. Then you see the lock screen and type the password as usual.
UAC prompt: if a User Account Control prompt appears on the device, you first see a notice "Am Gerät wird eine Administrator-Bestätigung angezeigt" (an administrator confirmation is shown on the device). After a few seconds the prompt comes into the picture. Click "Yes" or type the credentials. Then the normal picture returns, and you can also operate the program that starts with administrator rights.
How you know it worked
- After Strg+Alt+Entf the viewer reports "Strg+Alt+Entf gesendet" (sent), and the Windows Ctrl+Alt+Del menu appears in the picture.
- Your clicks and keys work at the lock screen and in the UAC prompt.
What the other side sees
- The UAC prompt and the lock screen as usual — your input appears there.
- Linux: via "Zugang vor der Anmeldung" you get a remote session of your own, not the picture of the attached monitor. If you sign in this way, the screen on site shows "Sitzung läuft bereits" (session already running). After sign-in BrowserDesk shows the real screen again.
Good to know
- Why the service is needed: on Windows only a program with system rights can show and operate these screens. Even "run as administrator" is not enough.
- The switch takes a few seconds. A UAC prompt is only taken over once it has been up for a good second; the service checks every three seconds.
- On Mac and Linux devices Strg+Alt+Entf is greyed out and states the reason.
- Restarting, signing out and being reconnected afterwards: E17.
If it does not work
| You see | Meaning and fix |
|---|---|
| "Strg+Alt+Entf nicht möglich (Dienst nötig)" (program) or "Strg+Alt+Entf nicht möglich — der Ziel-PC braucht den BrowserDesk-Dienst" (browser) — not possible, service needed | BrowserDesk runs on the device without the service. Set up the service (C4). |
| "Strg+Alt+Entf gibt es nur unter Windows — dieser Rechner läuft unter …" (only on Windows) | The device is a Mac or Linux computer. |
| Notice "Am Gerät wird eine Administrator-Bestätigung angezeigt" with "Ohne den BrowserDesk-Dienst kann er nicht übertragen werden." (cannot be transmitted without the service) | No service. Ask the person at the device to answer the prompt; then the picture comes back. |
| The notice stays with "Der BrowserDesk-Dienst übernimmt die Anzeige – das Bild kommt in wenigen Sekunden." (the service takes over, the picture comes in a few seconds) | Wait a few seconds. If it stays: H17. |
| Linux: "Nicht verfügbar (Paketinstallation erforderlich)" (not available, package installation required) under the switch | BrowserDesk was not installed as a package; sign-in screen access needs the package installation (C1). |
