Open a command line during the session

What it is for

Sometimes one command is quicker than ten clicks: ipconfig, restart a service, list a folder. The remote command line in the session window sends single commands to the device and shows the output — without a window opening at the device. It is meant as an emergency measure and is off by default.

What you need

• Allowed at the device: Einstellungen › Sicherheit (Settings > Security) → card Zugriffssteuerung (Access control) → switch on Remote-Kommandozeile erlauben (Allow remote command line). Centrally in the console: for the device or the access under Settings → Remote command line via viewer (exec).
• The control right in the session.
• Technician: BrowserDesk on a computer or web access.

How to do it

1. In the session bar, menu Verwaltung (Management) → Remote-Kommandozeile (Remote command line). The Remote-Kommandozeile panel opens at the bottom.
2. Choose the shell: PowerShell or CMD for Windows devices, Bash or sh for Mac and Linux.
3. Type the command into the field "Befehl…" (command) and send it with Enter.
4. The output appears above it, errors in red.
5. To cancel a running command: Abbrechen (Cancel; in the browser "Stop").
6. Close with the X.

How you know it worked

The device's output appears below your command.

Good to know

• One command after another, each on its own — not a session as in a real terminal. Programs that wait for input are not suitable.
• Limits: at most 45 seconds per command and 256 KB of output; after that it is cancelled.
• The command runs with the rights of BrowserDesk on the device.
• Not the same as the remote console: the command line from the console, without a session, is a separate add-on (G11).
