Assign and free seats of the add-on modules (Start Center, remote console)
You buy the Start Center and the remote console per device. A device takes its seat on first use or by assignment — after that it stays with that device. This is how you see who has which seat, and how one becomes free.

What it is for
The Start Center (G13) and the remote console (G11) are add-on modules: you buy them for a number of devices, once. Every device that uses a module takes a seat for it — on first use or because you assign it. The seat then stays with that device. This page shows where you see the seats, how to assign one and how one becomes free again.
What you need
- Cloud or your own relay with bought seats (A6). Free never gets either module.
- Own relay: an account as system administrator — the seats apply to the whole relay, all accesses share them.
- Cloud: an account as administrator of the access — the seats apply per access.
How to do it
Own relay: see and assign seats
- In the console BusinessLicenses → section Add-on modules.
- For each module you see licensed, not licensed or Trial, the figures Seats purchased, taken and free, and below them the devices with a seat: Device, Tenant, Operating system, Seat since, Taken by (first use or assigned in the console) and Last seen.
- Assign: Assign device → choose the device → Next → confirm Assign seat permanently? → Assign.
- More seats: Buy more seats takes you to the order page. After buying, install the new licence file (A5).
Cloud: see seats
- FleetTenants → double-click the access (Edit tenant) → tab Features.
- In the rows "Start Center" and "Remote console", Seats and switches shows how many are purchased, in use and free.
- Seats are taken on first use: the remote console the first time it is opened for a device, the Start Center the first time a start button is clicked on a device. As a Cloud customer you cannot assign a specific device in the console yet — there is no dedicated way for this; write to info@browserdesk.de.
- Buy more seats: /en/preise/ → buy more add-on modules (A6).
See what each device has
- In FleetDevices the column Licence: one chip per module — active (filled), free – taken on first use (dashed: the device has no seat yet, but one is free) or not active (struck through). Hovering shows the reason. If the column is missing: Choose columns.
- Filter with the funnel of the column: Start Center seat: yes, Start Center seat: no, Remote console seat: yes, Remote console seat: no.
- In the device itself, Overview shows the same in the line Licence. If a device has no remote console seat, the menu item Remote console carries a lock.
How you know it worked
- After assigning, the console reports "Seat assigned: …"; the device is listed with assigned in the console, and free goes down by one.
- In the device list the device shows active for the module.
Good to know
- Tied to the device. A taken seat only becomes free when you delete the device (C7) — or when the licensing authority of browserdesk.de releases it on request. You cannot release it yourself.
- Deletion brake: so that seats are not swapped by deleting and re-registering, within 30 days only the first deletions free their seat at once — at least 3, with many seats 10 %. Each further one keeps the seat locked until the end of the period. The console shows this below the figures ("Deletion brake: … of … releases by deletion used in the last 30 days."), for each locked seat "Locked seat free from …", and an expandable list "Releases used (…)".
- If the same device comes back, it gets its old seat again if one is free; its deletion then does not count against the brake.
- Moving: if you move a device into another access, the seat moves with it on your own relay; in the Cloud it ends in the old access.
- Seats only work with a valid licence or a paid Cloud plan. If the plan ends and comes back, the seats are back.
- An open remote console keeps running even if its seat becomes free in the meantime — the check happens when opening.
- The seat display has not yet been looked at on a real relay, only in a simulated test setup.
If it does not work
| You see | Meaning and remedy |
|---|---|
| Assign device is greyed out: "All seats are taken." | No seat is free. Buy more seats or delete a retired device (mind the deletion brake). |
| On the device or in the remote console: "Alle … Plätze der Remote-Konsole sind belegt, und dieses Gerät hat keinen. …" (all seats taken, this device has none; the relay sends it in German) | As above. |
| "Deletion brake: allowance of … releases in 30 days exceeded …" | You deleted more devices in 30 days than the allowance permits. The seat becomes free on the date shown — or buy more seats. |
| Box with not licensed and a sentence from the relay | Your licence does not include the module, or in the Cloud no seats have been bought for the access (A6). |
| A device is marked over the limit | The number of seats went down (smaller licence, trial ended). Only the oldest seats work; this device no longer uses the module. |
| Add-on modules is missing under Licenses | Your account is not a system administrator, or you are in the Cloud — there you see the seats under Edit tenant → Features. |
